Internet Information Resources
Your trusted primary care and specialty care providers are your most reliable resources to consult and to obtain credible healthcare information particularly that which is important to you and your health and that of your family and friends!
Current textbooks of medicine and peer-reviewed medical journals are generally considered reliable. These can generally be found in hospital medical libraries.
The Internet
USE it, but use with CAUTION!!
Internet Search
Today almost everyone has access to the Internet. It is a tremendous resource of reliable, credible healthcare information as well as equally massive repository of healthcare misinformation and disinformation. No search engine or AI platform has yet been developed that can reliably provide you with only factual, creditable, timely, evidence-based healthcare information.
Any information you obtain from an internet search that you use for personal healthcare decisions should be discussed with and verified by your medical providers.
Social Media
Social media is just that: social media. Anyone can post any information that they wish for whatever motivation they have. In general, no one that you personally cannot verify the identity of and is not known to you personally as a medical professional can be relied upon to provide you with information with which to use in YOUR healthcare decision making.
Verify all you read with YOUR providers of care!
Likely Reliable Sites
Investigate and develop your own list. Some to consider:
-
Medical journal sites: Some are open access.
-
UpToDate.com: A subscription-based medical textbook site.
-
US government-supported sites: These include CDC.gov, NIH.gov, FDA.gov, and PubMed.gov.
-
University, University Hospital, and medical school sites: These often provide reliable medical research and educational resources.
-
Nationally known hospital sites: Many reputable hospitals publish medical information and research findings.
Advertising
Though advertising is now medically ethical, no medical outcomes can be guaranteed and no creditable medical treatment is ONLY available or exclusively from a single resource. However, there are “Centers of Excellence” recognized nationally and internationally in the US; ask your trusted allopathic medical providers. Traditional or western medicine is known as Allopathic Medical Care.
